When deciding on the location of the apiary, the beekeeper must be guided by many points of view. If the beekeeper decides to have his apiary in the middle of a village or town, he should secure it in such a way that it does not threaten the surroundings (e.g. neighbors). This problem can be avoided with a simple solution, namely by planting a hedge, or by fencing before the fence grows to the required height (min. 1.5 meters), this obstacle will force the bees to fly high enough to fly over the neighbor's land.

The site must be easily accessible for beekeepers, so it must be accessible in all weather conditions. The beekeeper should avoid placing beehives in the vicinity of retirement homes, kindergartens, hospitals and places where many people stay. The most suitable habitat for bees is a place with constant water, but it must not be near swamps and water reservoirs, such areas are typical of humid environments with the occurrence of fogs, and this causes bees to fly out of the hives later.

The maximum range of a bee is 3-4 km, so the habitat must be as close as possible to the place from which the bee colony will draw. A suitable place for a habitat is on the edges of forests, next to leafy trees that provide shade in the summer, and in the spring bare branches do not block the access of the sun's rays. At the edge of the forest, bees have the option of a diverse clutch, both forest and meadow. If the habitat is located in an open area (e.g. a meadow), the planting of shrubs and lower trees is needed to prevent high winds and also to provide necessary shading.

In conclusion, selecting the ideal site for your apiary is essential for the well-being and productivity of your bee colonies. Emphasizing safety, accessibility under various weather conditions, and the presence of natural resources like water and sheltered environments, beekeepers can ensure a thriving beekeeping operation.

Wishing you successful beekeeping endeavors!
